Watch the following cartoon about a paper written for a class on the cultural relevance of comic books. Do these claims seem very important to you? Why did the professor not want to read the argument about Spiderman vs. Wolverine?

As you probably noticed, the argument that Spiderman would win in a fight doesn’t merit an entire academic paper for a class about the cultural relevance of comic book figures. Other topics, such as the theme of control in comic books, or the need for superheroes during the Cold War, are likely to be more interesting and important in the instructor’s eyes.
